10 Reasons to

"In February 2005 our lives changed. Our dog died. It was unexpected and our dearest Julie was no longer the center of our universe. My world spun downwards and I tried to think how I could reverse its spin. It occurred to me that perhaps the next series of paintings could be dedicated to her, and could actually reflect the many hours that we spent every day walking through the adjoining nature center. Sure enough, one after another, the paintings began to pour out. Here was our favorite outdoor room, the lake, the hockey pond around which we walked to get to the main house, the ducks and geese that got to know us over time, the change of seasons, the snow. Every scene held the promise of Julie's nearness and thus I was able to address my loss and my loneliness. She was not gone. Indeed she was waiting for me at the edges of the canvas, just calmly biding her time, waiting to be called.

Landscapes were new to me and I took some time with them, trying to trap the moving shadows, the constantly changing flow of nature, the colors of time spent there. And yet the fascination grew and the love of place began to establish itself. Capturing small nuances of landscape, making permanent the fleeting moment, became the challenge. I am now totally committed to this intimate art and will continue to render images that reveal its various natures. "
