Sculptural Still Life has emerged as my artwork leaped from 2 D to 3 D. Wall hangings made of recycled household cardboard are my artistic focus. By deconstructing and then reorganizing this material, I create mixed media sculptural drawings. My choices are intuitive. The general notion of what character the relief will take evolves as the piece emerges. Using recycled cardboard is a way to express the moral dilemma of debris in our society and investigate the physical beauty that it can hold. However, the pictorial narrative is secondary to my overall concerns, which are assembling shapes and moving them within the confines of the page, and creating a new surface that generates energy. As the piece obtains structure, it dictates the color and texture that will make it whole. I have been influenced by both Robert Rauschenberg and Henri Matisse -- Rauschenberg for his trash-based work and Matisse for his use of color. My work has been shown in regional and national exhibitions. I have a BFA from Fordham University and have studied at SVA, NYU, Parson School of Design and the Art Students League of NY.
