Diana Chelaru was born and raised in Iasi, Romania.
The younger of two children, she used to spend holidays with her sister and
grandparents in the countryside. The beauty of nature and life that
surrounded always intrigued her.
It was very early on in
her childhood that she developed a passion for art. As a young girl, guided
by her drawing teacher, she took classes in painting and drawing at the
Children’s Palace of Art. Her work was often placed in exhibitions and
contests.
Upon finishing
secondary school, she attended the “Octav Bancila” high school for art where
she spent four years perfecting her skills and taking classes in mural
painting, art history, volume studies and sculpture, color studies and
drawing. She graduates high school with a certificate of art which qualified
her to work on making and sustaining mural paintings. This certificate led
her to continue studying art at “George Enescu” University of Fine Arts,
Decorative Arts and Design, Iasi.
It was during this
period in her studies when she took part in the restoration intervention on
inner mural paintings at the historical monuments of Moldovita Church,
Suceava (16th century), Saint Nicolae – Popauti, Botosani and the
Memorial House of Vasile Pogor, Iasi. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in
Art in June 2004.
In 2005 she got
accepted at Queens College for a master in Art History. In 2007 she received
her Masters Degree and is pursuing her dream of becoming a successful
artist.
