“As a child, I sat in the dusty light of my grandfather’s attic, pouring over his collection of old National Geographic and Life magazines. I fell in love with the evocative images of the wide world..." - Alex Baker

Biography

I dreamed of going to all those places to capture my own frozen moments of drama and beauty. As a young adult, I traveled from city to city, working in the theater as a set designer, lighting designer and stage manager. At first, I photographed my stage designs, but inspired by the images I found in my grandfather's attic, I made time to study the masters of photography.

I assembled a portable darkroom. I shot, developed and printed thousands of photographs. On the side, I did travel and nature photography, model and actor portfolios and performance photography. My time was divided between recreating reality on the stage and capturing it in my camera.

I took some time off to focus on a second career and my family, but today I travel near and far to compose and capture those images that make me wonder, smile and sigh.

Do I specialize in specific types of photography?  Yes – landscape, travel, architecture and street photography, but also whatever else catches my eye.”
